Workouts and session reports
Salsamatic uses HealthKit to record dance workouts and read measurements such as heart rate, active energy and steps, with your permission. The watch uses motion data to estimate dancing, resting and song segments, and its gyroscope to count spins.
Workouts are saved to Apple Health. Reports, preferences, venues and notes are stored on your devices, and the watch sends session information to its paired iPhone. Session information includes dance and rest periods, heart rate, steps, active energy, estimated songs and spins, recognised songs and likes, and optional venue coordinates and notes. Widgets and Live Activities can show session details on your lock screen or watch; use your device’s notification and Live Activity settings to control their visibility. The watch also keeps recent motion samples and diagnostic logs for troubleshooting.
There is no Salsamatic account or Disco Media server storing your workout history. We do not receive your Health records, session reports or motion samples through the app. This version does not provide Salsamatic cloud sync. We do not use health, fitness, motion or location data for advertising, marketing, data brokerage or research, and do not sell it.
Microphone and song recognition
If you enable Plus song recognition, the watch uses its microphone during sessions to identify music through Apple’s ShazamKit service. The watch sends a mathematical audio fingerprint to Apple’s Shazam service to find a match; microphone audio stays on the watch and is not uploaded by Salsamatic. See Apple’s music recognition privacy information. Salsamatic stores the recognised title, artist and related song identifiers with the session.
When a match fails, the app may keep a short audio fingerprint for a later recognition attempt. A fingerprint describes sound for matching; it is not a saved audio recording. Salsamatic does not save microphone audio recordings.
Location and Apple Music
Location access is optional. It is used when you save a venue on your iPhone or enable automatic venue tagging for watch sessions. Saved venues and session tags stay with your app data.
If you play a song preview or export a playlist, the iPhone app requests Apple Music access and sends the recognised song identifiers to Apple. Previews stream directly from Apple without an Apple Music subscription; their waveform uses the playback audio, not your microphone, and Salsamatic does not save the audio. Playlist export creates a playlist in your Apple Music library.
Purchases
Apple processes Plus subscriptions. The app checks your App Store subscription records to unlock Plus, and the start of your first session (from the app or your Salsamatic workouts in Apple Health) to work out when the 14-day free trial ends. Both stay on your iPhone and watch. Disco Media does not receive your payment card details. Apple’s services are covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Your choices and device data
You can turn off Song recognition or Tag venues automatically in Salsamatic’s iPhone Settings. You can also revoke Health, microphone, Motion & Fitness, location and Apple Music permissions in your device’s Privacy & Security settings; watch permissions are managed on the watch or in the Watch app. Revoking permission stops future access, but does not erase existing reports. You can use the core session tracking features without enabling song recognition or venue tagging.
Reports and edits stay on your devices until you remove the app’s data. To erase all local Salsamatic history, delete the app from both your iPhone and watch; offloading the app keeps its data. Deleting it from only one device leaves the other copy. We cannot remotely erase these copies because we do not hold them. Saved venue entries can also be deleted in iPhone Settings → Venues.
Workouts already saved to Apple Health are managed separately: in Health, open your profile → Apps → Salsamatic to manage access and delete data recorded by Salsamatic. Deleting a Health workout does not delete the separate session report. Apple Health’s own sync, backup and retention follow your Apple settings.
Salsamatic marks its report database, watch session files and shared widget storage as excluded from app backups, and disables CloudKit for the report database. Reports and edits are not restored through Salsamatic cloud sync. Your Health workouts may remain available separately.
The watch keeps raw samples for the five most recent sessions, a rolling diagnostic log, and recent session summaries. Saved song fingerprints are limited to 240; they are removed when matched or rejected, and a failed retry removes fingerprints more than a day old. Other reports remain until the app’s local data is removed. No microphone recordings are retained.

Support messages
If you use the support form on this website or in the iPhone app’s Settings, we receive your email address, optional name and message. Messages from the app also include the app version, iOS version and iPhone model. Cloudflare hosts the form handler. It sends these details through DiscoMail (Disco Media’s mail service) to Disco Media’s Google-hosted support mailbox. These providers process support correspondence to deliver, secure and manage our replies; they do not receive your app’s workout database or motion recordings. Their services may process information outside Australia. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy. There is no separate database of form submissions.
We use support correspondence and its device details only to answer and investigate your request, and retain it while handling the request and any related follow-up. We require service providers handling it for us to protect it consistently with this policy. We do not use it for advertising or tracking. Please avoid sending Health records or other private details. To request access, correction or deletion, email us from the address you used for support. We will delete correspondence we can identify as yours unless we must retain it to meet a legal obligation; provider backups may retain copies under their own retention schedules.
